Yaffo, an ancient city rich with history, has faced complex community challenges over the years. The unique intersection of diverse sectors, new immigrants and varied populations, alongside years of underinvestment in infrastructure and social resources, has created a social fabric that invites meaningful involvement and action.
Recognizing these needs, the Social-Community Activities Department was established within "Illuminating Yaffo," coordinating the extensive volunteer network of the organization's institutions – Yeshivat Hesder students, pre-military academy participants, women's midrasha students, and young adults from student villages throughout the city.
The 'For the Community' Department operates in welfare, education and community spheres, integrating with existing municipal volunteer frameworks while creating innovative independent initiatives. We focus on projects serving populations with special needs – at-risk children and youth, senior citizens, Ethiopian immigrants, and activities strengthening Jewish identity and connection to tradition.
Beyond internal work within the institutions, "Illuminating Yaffo" sees paramount importance in connecting with the diverse communities comprising Yaffo's mosaic. We aspire to create a model where every student, along with the broader community, participates in meaningful social action throughout the year. Our circles of influence touch a wide range of areas – from social and educational spheres, through welfare and assistance initiatives, to cultural and identity activities adapted for all ages and populations.
Behind this complex network stands a dedicated team of coordinators working tirelessly to identify volunteer and giving opportunities, and to precisely match projects with volunteers, understanding that proper matching leads to meaningful and lasting impact. Thus volunteering transforms from a task to a way of life, and from empowering others to mutual empowerment, illuminating Yaffo with a new light of mutual responsibility and bridge-building between worlds.
